I was talking with my mom and I decided that I would spend the next year celebrating as many holidays and occurrences as possible. I think there are around 300 holidays a month!
My mom and I have always loved all the peculiar holidays and have had many laughs discussing them. I think this year will be a lot of fun but it will also require a lot of dedication, time, and it wont be without costs. I will give you once a week up dates once I get it started (Probably next month) and I will post daily journalings as often as possible. I have a feeling I will be rather busy.
I am home schooled which I believe will make this a whole heap easier, but also more challenging. Mom made an agreement with me... For this year I will use this as a lot of my school work. I will be writing reports on many of these days and I will be doing loads of research. I look forward to this coming year and I hope you will enjoy following my blog.
Feel free to post your comments along the way.

International Snail Papers day

For snail papers day i had my brother pick up a news paper for me while he was out.....I briefly looked it over!

World Health Organization day

This year's theme for World Health Organization day is 'Aging and health'.
Here's a bunch of ways to stay healthy as you age:
  • Eat a healthy diet
A good diet can help keep you healthy and fit.
  • Drink a lot of herbal tea
Scientists have proved that a lot of tea (green, or black) can reduce your chance of getting Cardiovascular disease.
  • Drink Coffee
They have also been able to prove that drinking a good amount of coffee can help prevent Gallstones, Cirrhosis, Parkinson's disease, Diabetes, and Kidney stones.
  • Keep Fit
Getting exercise and staying fit will keep you healthier. too much weight can cause Heart Disease, Diabetes, and high blood pressure.
  • Stay Busy
Sitting around with nothing to do lessens your chance of living longer. Ba aware of what's going on in your neighbor hood. Being aware and active will add to keeping you healthy

No Housework Day

So We are trying to get ready for Easter and I haven't done any housework. I am instead helping mom with the cooking for Easter dinner. I will say, I much prefer cooking to housework!
Have a great relaxed day, and don't do any housework!

Window Safety Week

April first through seventh is window safety week. Here's a list of Window Safety tips:
  • Be sure the windows are never painted or nailed shut. A window must be able to open to provide escape in an emergency.
  • If small children are around only open the top part of windows - or only high windows - if air is needed. Otherwise keep all windows shut and locked.
  • have children play away from any windows. Falling through a window could be fetal for a child.
  • In attempt to make any possible fall less harmful try to have shrubs, mulch, or grass underneath windows outside.
  • Try to keep any thing that children can climb on away from the windows.

Happy Window Safety week!

Drowsy Driver Awareness day

When we went to the Police Department yesterday Norrene had given me a little booklet on driving distractions. I read the pages on Fatigued driving.
Help avoid accidents and don't drive if your tired! happy Drowsy Driver Awareness day!

Good Friday

For Good Friday dad and I went and cut down a birch tree to make a cross. Dad put it in the ground in the front yard, and Mom bought Easter Lilies. It looks beautiful! And for Easter we have a purple sash to put on it.

Teflon day

We cooked dinner in a Teflon non-stick pan. Super Fun!

Pecan Month

I had a Banana Pecan muffin at an awesome drive up -Bev's Bear Creek Cafe - to celebrate Pecan Month! It was delicious!
Happy Pecan month!

Hospital Admitting Clerks day

I brought a gift over to the Admitting Clerks at the hospital. There is only one at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, but I had three gift, so a the others at the desk were given them too!
I'm finding that no one really know about any of the holidays. They did not know today was Hospital Admitting Clerks day - they do now!

National Tartan day

Who new that New Hampshire had it's own Tartan? Not me!
It was adopted the year I was born!
Happy National Tartan day- hey, and I wore my plaid shirt to celebrate!

Army day

Scary abandoned looking building, not so scary inside the door, nice people even further in.
For Army day we wanted to go to the Army Recruiting office. We had a lot of trouble finding the place so we went to the Army National Guard Recruiting office...With doughnuts. They say the way to a soldier's heart is through doughnuts, Okay, maybe nobody says that but we're hoping.
I asked them what the difference is between the Army National Guard from the Army. The Army national Guard is overseen by the governor of that state, instead of by the president. They also can help the police Department. They can also be deployed overseas but if they do they are then switched to the Army and are then under the president.
I wish I had gotten your names, If you look at my blog thanks for all you do!

Deep Dish Pizza Day

We made deep dish pizza today, then of course my brother comes home from work and says we did it wrong! So whether we did it or right or not we celebrated it by trying!
We don't actually have deep dish pizza pans so we just did it in a backing pan. YUM

National Fun at Work day and Laugh at Work Week

Mom, Dad, and I were dancing in the office today! And we were laughing too!
My parents own Abundant Blessings Homecare and the office is in our home...So it's not hard for us to have fun at work. I've noticed that there are a lot of work related holidays, helping mom with the marketing in the office and in our little shop (Barley Harvest) are really the closest things I have to work, So when those holidays come up that's what I'll use!
Happy National Fun at Work day; I hope you had fun at work!
Even the dog was....umm...wondering what on earth we were doing!

national D.A.R.E day

Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a program to help kids make good choices and say NO to drugs.
Today I went to the Police Department (bare foot!) to see if they had any thing on D.A.R.E. Norrene at the Police Department was very kind and helpful, she gave me a bunch of material on D.A.R.E to read and look over.
Norrene gave me a mini tour of the Police Department. She showed me the Booking room! She also introduced me to the Chief - Chief McGowan - and I met one of the officers.

Happy D.A.R.E day!

I saw this sign while we were out. I was in a moving car, and I got the picture while the sign was changing to show another message....so yes, it says "T INK BFF RE U RINK" But it did say "THINK BEFORE U DRINK"! I

One Day Without Shoes

I looked this up and found that it is done on different days in April around America...So I decided to just do it on all of them!
A Day Without Shoes is to help make people aware of all the Millions of children around the world who have to live life without shoes. People don't know what they have till it's gone.

If you want to participate further or learn more about this you can visit http://www.onedaywithoutshoes.com/. and here's a link for a great video you can watch that gives alot of information on it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vlz3QKHJBac&feature=player_embedded#! I was trying to get the video to just be here but that didn't work!

Ok, I confess. I did where shoes once today. I had to make the exception for Ballet class. Can't dance without them, Though i do think they are technically slippers!

National Caramel day

There has been a couple holidays so far that I am more than happy to celebrate! Happy Caramel day!

National Chicken Cordon Bleu day

4 chicken breasts - pounded flat
4 slices swiss cheese
8 slices ham or proscuitto
1 cup flour (can reduce this a bit)
1 tsp paprika
2 eggs
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 cup panko bread crumbs
1 Tbsp herbs (we used some bells seasoning, parsley, oregano)
salt and pepper

Lay out one of the flattened chicken breasts. On the chicken lay 2 slices of ham and one slice of cheese. Roll up the chicken and use toothpicks or skewers to secure.

In a bowl mix together the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. Beat the eggs with 2 Tbsp of water, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix herbs with the bread crumbs in another bowl. Roll the chicken in the flour mixture. Then dip the chicken in the egg mixture, then roll in the bread crumbs.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the chicken in a baking pan or on a cookie sheet. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown and the juices run clear.

Bonza Bottler Day

Bonza Bottler is just when the Month and date are the same number! Today is 4/4!
Have a great Bonza Bottler!

Lyme

I feel I should probably let every one know That I am dealing with what we think is Lyme disease. It makes me really tired and makes me exhaust easily. So - like today - there may be days that I'm may not be able to celebrate all the holidays that are on that day. I hate to admit that there are quite a few holidays I did not celebrate today...I apologize.

Stress Awareness Month

April is Stress Awareness month...I am definitely aware of stress!
Today I went to the Massage therapist AND the Chiropractor. I think that's a great way to celebrate Stress Awareness. Happy Stress Awareness month - Go get a massage!

National day of Hope

National day of Hope is a day to hope for a stop to child abuse.
Hope has big meaning for our family because of my great-grand-mother who died just a few years ago. I had started Ellen's Hope in her memory (http://www.leukemiasupport.blogspot.com/) and the rock and ornament were bought, thinking of her.

Square Root day

Ok...so today isn't really square root day but I found this very interesting so decided to post about it any way! Square Root day is when the date is the square root of he last two digits in the year. So the last Square Root day was 3/3/09, the next Square Root day will be today in four years: 4/4/16 I think that's cool! Do you get it? 2 is the square root of 9...4 is the square root of 16!
Here's some thing else I found on the Square Root: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO9EU0w3CrY
Now apparently the scare crow gets it wrong...but it's still fun to watch! Happy not Square Root day!

National Walking day

Mom and I walked down the street to the store to buy eggs. I didn't bring my camera though so I have no pictures...Sorry. Happy Walking day.

World Party day

Yesterday was World Party day. I wasn't able to post about it then so I am now!My dad teaches Karate to a couple kids in a room above the library that they let us use. At the end of karate Mom and I went over there with lemon brownie cup cakes. So we had a tiny, short party! It was fun!
Every body REALLY liked the cup cakes so I thought I'd tell you how I did them.
I make flavored brownies a lot and it's really easy. Just use your regular brownie recipe and instead of using the called for amount of vanilla extract use the amount given but doubled of what ever flavoring extract you'd like. If your recipe doesn't call for vanilla than you can just add a couple teaspoons of extract t0 the batter - estimate.
I just dumped the badder into mini cup muffin tins instead of a nine by thirteen.
Happy World Party day!

Paraprofessionals appreciation day

Happy Paraprofessionals Appreciation day!

I put a little candy in a bag and labeled it for the gift. This is probably what I'll do for most of my gifts.

So for Paraprofessionals Appreciation day I made up two gifts to give to Paraprofessionals at the Wakefeild school. I've only been in any schools a couple times in my life and it was never during school hours...so this was fairly odd for me!
Mom and I dropped the gifts off at the window inside the door. We told them that they could decide who to give them to.
Out side the school.

Emotional Overeating Awareness Month

April is Emotional Overeating Awareness month.
Emotional overeating is when people let their emotions decide what, when, and how much to eat.
If people are stressed out, sad, anxious, or just don't want to think about their problems they'll often turn to food.
Some times without even realizing it people will eat something - usually sweet or salty - to deal with things that are troubling them. This can cause them to become overweight and unhealthy. Overeating can cause you to feel worse rather than better. If you overeat it can affect your health in different ways-Cancer, Heart disease, Heart attacks, and Strokes can all be caused by overeating.
Emotionally overeating can also cause more emotional issues, it can cause you to feel guilty - which often leads to more overeating. If you gain weight - which can cause you to think your unattractive or ugly- that can cause you to not want to leave the house, that alone can cause you to gain weight.
With certain people overeating to the point of being overweight can lead to a total stop of eating anything, which is bad for your body in even more ways.
So for Emotional Overeating Awareness month try to be aware of what your eating and your stress level. If you do think you have a problem with this talk to some one about it. There may be a way yo help with your emotional problems that you are unaware of...and that don't involve eating.
Happy Emotional Overeating Awareness Month

National Blue Ribbon Week

April 1-7 is National Blue Ribbon week.
I made this Ribbon for Handy Man, My friend Tracy's horse, Just cause I think he's awesome. Though I told Tracy he can't have it till he's good cause he definitely wasn't good today (see post below).
I really wanted to get a picture of it on his halter, on him. Though because he wouldn't let me get the halter on him I couldn't get the picture...Oh well, It works well enough on his stall door.

Pony Express day

So I was all excited about this one. Pony Express day fascinates me. I told mom once that when I get older I wanted to work for the post office and deliver the mail on horse back!
Well any way, my idea was this: I knew I wanted to either walk or ride a horse for this one, and my friend, Tracy, up the street has a horse that I LOVE. She lets me bring him for walks any time. So I decided I would walk Handy Man to the post office to get our mail!....handy had other Ideas! He decided he wasn't going to let me get the halter on him. He does this fairly often (We're still working on it!) and usually I don't let him get away with it but I haven't been feeling too good and he quickly wore me out. So instead of walking Handy I just had mom take my picture with Levi - one of Tracy's other horses. Below is me and Levi and above is Handy being a jerk.
The horses at the barn (Minus Handy Man), from Left to right. Tonka, Levi and Me, and CJ hiding his head.

All the Pony Express riders were given red shirts, SO I wore the reddest one I own....Though you can see I still have my silly Tweed dress on!

Tweed day

We went to the Salvation Army a couple days ago to buy some thing tweed! The only thing we found that wasn't a suit was this dress. I think it's quite a hideous dress, and still I've been wearing it all day. Happy Tweed day

Tater day

It specifically said that Tater day was supposed to be Sweet Potatoes.
Actually Tater day is not just a day to eat Taters! It all started in 1842, People would get together to have a day of selling and trading potatoes! You can read about it here: http://www.explorekentuckylake.com/lakesarea/events/taterday.htm and there's also a page on Tater day on Wikipedia.
We for Tater day just ate sweet potatoes! I made sweet potato fries.
Here's how:
Just peel and cut up four sweet potatoes, Cut them what ever size you want your fries to be. Put one or two tablespoons of oil into a Nine by Thirteen baking pan. Place all the potato slices onto the pan. Sprinkle salt, pepper, onion powder, and chives on top of he taters. Put in oven on 350 Fahrenheit. Take the taters out of the oven half way through and with a spatula flip all the taters and put back in the oven for them to finish baking. When they are as soft and browned as you would like take them out, serve, and enjoy. (This served our family of six)

National Peanut Butter and Jelly day

There are very few sandwiches that I actually like, and PBJ is not one of them. So my sister made a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, I put Peanut Butter and Jelly on a Rice cake...and just for the heck of it we made Peanut Butter and Jelly crackers too! A very varied lunch! Happy PB and J day!

International Children's Book day and National Love our Children day

I combined these two by reading a book to my children....Now I am only 16 years old but I do have kids... They're not humans, but they are mine. I feel you'll notice that in the future if there happens to be children related holiday you'll either see a kitten or a herd of goats. You'll just have to deal with it!
So I went out side to read aloud a Children's book to my Goats because I love my Children. I was reading the book Matilda by Roald Dahl. I thought this was very funny because in the picture above I'm reading to my goat Matilda (Or Tilly!) - Who is due to have her babies any day now!
Here's me and Pippi. (Another from a Children's Book!) ...Oh and if you look closely you can see Faye's tail - She's my 3 week old doeling. Annika's her mom, you can see her in the top picture. She's the one my hands on.

World Autism Day and Autism Awareness month

For world Autism day I did some research on Autism.
And later I'm going to watch a movie called Fly Away. I've never seen it before and the only thing I know about it is that it's about a girl with Autism.
Mom want's me to write on most of the medical related occurrences, but this one I was able to do with just some reading and a movie!

Reconciliation day

Reconciliation day is a day to make up with those you've hurt and to forgive those you've held grudges against.

Today I reconciled with my dad. I begged his forgiveness for my getting him wet with the sprayer yesterday! (He had overreacted about it a bit...) The sprayer thing was my April Fools joke!

Sunday, 1 April 2012

April Fools day

Here's a great prank that will get any one upset with you! Tie a rubber band or hair tie around the sprayer handle on your sink. Aim it towards the front of the sink... the next time some one turns on the faucet they will get sprayed... It doesn't work on those newer faucets that have the sprayer on the faucet, and the faucet comes off.... those are so annoying! (I would not recommend doing this if you'll be in a hurry to get some where!) happy April Fools!
Here's a link on how to short sheet a bed. I've done this a lot in the past. It was always very fun. I remember I once did it when my little sister was VERY little and she was so short that she didn't realize I had done any thing!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zysVI9eI-1E

It's also Humor Month!

Fun day

Fun day.....hmmm... Well starting this adventure sure has made for a fun day! To celebrate National Fun day I'm starting this FUN adventure!...That counts right?

Sorry Charlie day

Sorry Charlie day is a day to basically a day to sit back and feel sorry for your self! So think of everything you may have missed out on, all the people who aren't completely kind to you, or every thing you've lost, and feel sorry that you've had to live with it.

I don't know how you could do this better than by having chocolate! So you could get a soft, smooth, and melty chocolate bar or you could make a nice cup of hot chocolate! here's a recipe to make it with milk on your stove:

In a pot mix together 3 tablespoons of unsweetened Cocoa,
6 tablespoons sugar, and 1 quart of milk. Put on stove until it's hot.
Stir continuously so that the milk wont burn.
(You can add some vanilla extract if you want)

Atheist day

Happy Atheist day!

Happy Palm Sunday

This is the unleavened bread I made for communion for our house church. I don't know if you can read it but it says "Happy Palm Sunday".
Mark 11:1-10
When they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go your way into the village that is opposite you. Immediately as you enter into it, you will find a young donkey tied, on which no one has sat. Untie him, and bring him. If any one asks you, 'why are you doing this?' say, 'The lord needs him;' and immediately he will send him back here."
They went away, and found a young donkey tied at the door out wide in the open street, and they untied him. Some of those who stood there asked them, "what are you doing, untying the young donkey?" They said to them just as Jesus has said, and they let them go.hey brought the young donkey to Jesus, and threw their garments on it, and Jesus sat on it. many spread their garments on the way, and others were cutting down branches from the trees, and spreading them on the road. Those who went in front, and those who followed, cried out "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom on our father David that is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
It's Palm Sunday.
A Palm branch.

International Tongue Twister day!

I have found this web site which has 524 tongue twisters on it!
I will post here just a few of them! Try saying these tree times fast!

She trust three thousand thistles through the thick of her thumb.

Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you! If you trouble trouble,
Triple trouble troubles you!

Whether the weather be fine
or whether the weather be not.
Weather the weather be cold
or whether the weather be hot.
We'll weather the weather
whether you like it or not

I do believe that last one is harder to type than to say!

US Air Force Academy day, National poetry month, and Poetry and Creative Mind day

For these three I decided to combine them. I wrote a poem about the Air Force Academy...now how geniousness is that?

It's Air Force Academy day,
I'm grateful for he role they play.
They train to protect our country,
To help us feel safe, and keep us free.
They train each day and learn to fight,
If the time's to come they'll do it right.
To fly the planes by heart they're taught,
I'm grateful for them an awful lot!

I'm not much of a poet but I gave it a shot!

Here's the air force song!

Library Snap Shot Day

Here's my first holiday! Now starts my crazy holiday adventure!
For Library Snap Shot Day I went over to interview the librarian at the Milton Mills Free Public Library. The librarian-Betsy-wasn't there so I interviewed Nancy who works there.
Nancy starts her day at the library by unlocking the doors, turning on the lights, and putting out the American flag and the open flag.
she then checks the drop box for books or movies to be returned, and sets the date stamp so the due-date stamped on books taken out is correct.
During her day at the library Nancy will check the bulletin board and make sure everything's up to date. She'll take down everything that may have gone by and put up any new announcements that there may be. She'll also empty the trash can if needed.
When people come into the library Nancy will put a tally mark on a chart so they know how many people are coming into the library and also whether they are children or adults.
I asked Nancy if there seems to be a preference in books. She said that a majority of the people take out fictional books.
There are four computers in the library for any one to use. people have to sign in to use them so that if any one has been waiting to use a computer some one can be "booted off" if they've all ready been on for half an hour. Though Nancy did say that that hardly never happens.
Inter library loans are only done by the librarian. If Betsy's not there some one will leave a note to Betsy asking if she can inter library loan a book or movie for them. When Betsy is able to she'll send out a request and if another library has the book/movie the will send it. When the book/movie arrives Betsy will call the person who requested it to let them know that it's there. If they don't pick it up within a certain time the book/movie will be sent back.
When closing time comes Nancy said she does basically the same thing she did to open-only backwards. The flags come down, the lights are turned off and she makes sure all doors are securely locked before she leaves.
There's a snap shot of a day at our library-that I can walk to in about 3 minutes!

Calm before the storm

Mom has told me that she feels like this is the calm before the storm! While we are excited about this new challenge to come, it's odd to have our days free while we know that for the next year we will be very busy, and full.
We have been Planning like crazy! We've spent hours at the office table with planners and computers. I'm working on the weeklies and dailies while mom does the monthlies. It's fun to see all the obscure holidays that people have come up with.
I'll be posting holiday adventures soon... keep checking back!
